Using this website
This website tells you about Sciforn and our products. You may read it, link to it and share it. Please do not copy large parts of it, present it as your own, or try to disrupt it or get into parts of it that are not public.
We work to keep the website accurate, but it is a general description, not an offer or professional advice. What a product does for a particular business is set out in that business's agreement with us. The website may change, and may occasionally be unavailable.
The website's content, our product names and our logo belong to Sciforn Ltd. Links to other websites are there for convenience; we are not responsible for their content.
Using our software
Our software, including Helios, Athena, Selene, Atlas and Juno, is provided to businesses under a written agreement with each of them. That agreement sets out what is provided, the service levels, the fees, how data is handled and each side's responsibilities. If anything on this page differs from a business's agreement with us, the agreement applies.
People who use our software do so on behalf of their business, and must keep their sign-in details to themselves, use only the access their business has given them, and follow their business's own rules.
Filing VAT returns with HMRC through Helios
Helios is software for Making Tax Digital for VAT. A business can connect Helios to HMRC and file its VAT returns from it. When it does:
- the business connects by signing in to HMRC with its own Government Gateway account, and can disconnect Helios at any time, in Helios and in its HMRC account;
- only people the business has given the VAT submitter role can file a return, and only a return that has been prepared, reviewed by a second person and locked;
- before filing, the person submitting must confirm HMRC's declaration that the information is true and complete. Filing a false return can lead to prosecution;
- the business is responsible for the figures it files and for meeting HMRC's deadlines. Helios calculates the return from the business's own records and keeps HMRC's receipt, but it is not tax advice, and Sciforn is not the business's agent or tax adviser;
- Helios sends HMRC the fraud prevention information HMRC requires with every request, as described in our privacy policy;
- HMRC's own terms of use apply to the business's use of HMRC's services. HMRC may change or suspend them, and Helios depends on them being available.
Responsibility
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow to be limited. Apart from that, and except where a business's agreement with us says otherwise, we are not responsible for loss caused by relying on this website or by a service outside our control, such as HMRC's, a bank's or the internet itself being unavailable.
Changes and law
We may update these terms. The version on this page, with its date, is the one that applies. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
